Rolex Submariner

In 1953, the Rolex Submariner made its debut as the world’s first 100-meter-rated diving watch. The Submariner was an indispensable tool for mid-century aquanauts with its impressive waterproof case, timing bezel, luminous dial, and tough steel construction, and its reputation grew as interest in scuba diving grew.

The Rolex Submariner is one of the most recognizable luxury timepieces ever created, as well as the gold standard of dive watches. Many people consider these divers’ watches to be the most important watches they’ll ever own. They come in a variety of materials, colors, and production periods.

Rolex Submariner Price in KSA

The price of a brand-new Submariner varies according to where you buy it in Saudi Arabia. Authorized dealers (AD) are required by Rolex to adhere to an official price list. New Submariner models sold at an AD will cost the following in 2021:

  • Stainless-Steel Submariner: 30,000 SAR – 36,000 SAR
  • Two-Tone Submariner: 53,640 SAR
  • Yellow Gold Submariner: 138,603 SAR
  • White Gold Submariner: 149,856 SAR

New Submariner purchases at an AD are more difficult than simply walking into a boutique and purchasing one. Due to the high demand, it’s unlikely that a boutique will have a new Submariner in stock to sell you right away; instead, they’ll tell you that they’re sold out or ask you to join a very long waitlist if any are available.

There are a limited number of new Submariner watches for sale on the secondary market, but they are extremely expensive. If you’re looking to buy a pre-owned Submariner, be prepared to pay the following prices:

  • Stainless-Steel Submariner: 52,500+ SAR
  • Two-Tone Submariner: 67,500+ SAR
  • Yellow Gold Submariner: 150,000+ SAR
  • White Gold Submariner: 180,000+ SAR

The Champion Luxury Dive Watch

It’s hard not to be perplexed when looking at the originals of the collection – those beautifully understated examples that serve as the blueprint for dive watch design. By comparison, this watch appears almost divine in comparison to the deluge of copies and derivatives that followed. As you say, there are hundreds of great dive watches that came after, but the pioneering underwater watch from the brand had an impact on virtually every modern dive watch.

The model has a proven track record spanning over half a century and can be trusted. Historically, it is a cultural touchstone from which all subsequent dive watches have drawn inspiration, and it is the watch most responsible for bringing a luxury tool watch to the public’s attention.

The Sub and its subsequent legacy have altered the way the dive watch industry (and the rest of the world) approaches dive timepieces. These mechanical companions were initially designed as tools, but have since crossed over into the world of high fashion, where they’re now regarded as recognized status symbols around the world. As a result, the watch is highly sought after and worn by a large number of people who have never even worn a wetsuit or contemplated going under the waves.

There are many brands looking to cash in on the general public’s fascination with the deep sea, but this has caused some consternation among true scuba divers and marine aficionados (especially due to the effect this widespread love has had on the price of vintage references). So, let’s dive right in and see why this watch has remained the world’s best dive watch ever since it was first introduced in the 1950s.

History of The Rolex Submariner

Rene P. Jeanneret was a director at Rolex who was also an avid scuba diver. He was the driving force behind the development of the model. The timing couldn’t have been better for him to encourage his company to create a watch that could double as diving equipment. As a result of World War II and the ensuing need for healing, people’s curiosity about nature grew during the 1950s. SCUBA diving was becoming increasingly popular, and researchers were conducting more and more research in the oceans across the world.

Water-resistant automatic wristwatches were still in their infancy when the watch was initially produced. A self-winding (“perpetual”) follow-up to the ground-breaking 1926 debut of the Oyster casing was released by Rolex 22 years earlier in 1931. The 6204 was the first model to be water-resistant to a depth of 100 meters, which was impressive at the time. Another two references (6205 and the thicker 6200) were announced in the 1950s, with public sales beginning in 1955.

Having been around since its inception, the Rolex Submariner watch series has grown to be one of the most recognizable and sought-after in the company’s history. Aside from their stainless steel construction and lack of a date window or dial/bezel colour options on the first models, the collection has since grown to cover a wide range of models ranging from the functional to the extravagant.

Despite the fact that it wasn’t the first dive watch ever made, this model did a lot to define what a diving watch should do. It’s no exaggeration to say that Rolex’s Submariner is the “archetype of the modern dive watch.” The Rolex Submariner model has had a profound influence on today’s dive watches, and traces of its DNA can be found all across the industry.
