A sparse dial leaves proportion exposed
Classic references use 36 mm or 40 mm round cases, and the choice changes more than wrist coverage. The smaller size feels restrained and dress-led; the larger one gives the same sparse dial greater graphic presence without adding visual noise.
Daniel Wellington's compatibility guide pairs the 36 mm case with an 18 mm strap and the 40 mm case with a 20 mm strap. That is useful when assessing replacements, although the brand cautions that not every watch has an interchangeable system.
The strap supplies most of the character
